Three qualities, four grades
Sorting the fleece
- Quality 1 — the blanket: the prime fibre from the back and sides, destined for yarn.
- Quality 2: fibres under 5 cm long, for felt and stuffing.
- Quality 3: the offcuts (neck, legs, belly).
Fineness grades
- Grade A — Royal / Baby< 20 µ
- Grade B — Superfine20.1 – 24 µ
- Grade C — Medium24.1 – 28 µ
- Grade D — Strong> 28.1 µ
Fibre analyses are run at a partner laboratory; the per-animal history tracks how the micron changes year on year.
